MY GOALS AS YOUR NEXT SECRETARY OF STATE

Propose modifications and recommendations to the legislature and governor.

Advocate for the implementation of proposed ideas without the necessity of new legislation.

Develop a state-wide database for ballot initiatives and signatures to streamline the process.

Advocate for the repeal of the South Dakota Constitution’s Governor’s authority to select a replacement for a vacancy, as it should be determined by the next highest candidate’s vote. The people have spoken.

Create a database where voters in their respective districts can vote to approve or disapprove a potential vote by their legislators before the vote. This ensures that the district voters’ true will is reflected and helps to curb party-line politics. Not every voter agrees with party-line politics, including federal legislators. This is a quantitative database that can be utilized for research on political trends in South Dakota, serve as a tool for legislators to better understand their constituents, and enhance voter participation. Not every voter will write a letter or call. Each registered voter would have a number for anonymity to safeguard voters from political retribution.

File lawsuits against laws that violate the Bill of Rights and the National Voter Registration Act (NVR Act) through the courts, potentially escalating the case if the state violates voters’ rights.

Identify and rectify any failures within all divisions under my supervision to prevent their recurrence.

Restructure the customer service in each department to create an inviting and respectful environment, which fosters positive interactions and helps de-escalate angry customers.
